Park Slope this week: a Georgian kitchen in Negril's old space, roadway cafes go year-round, and the Battle of Brooklyn's 250th
Saturday morning the Long Meadow gets a battle. Speaking starts at 9:30, and at 10 the reenactors march down Third Street to the Old Stone House, which is close to what actually happened here on August 27, 1776. It's free, it's loud, and it's the 250th.
Fifth Avenue keeps turning over in the meantime. Sesilya, a Georgian restaurant and bakery, is taking two of the three storefronts Negril left behind, six weeks after Lileo opened a Georgian coffee and wine bar up at Warren Street. Here's the week.

Sesilya, a Georgian restaurant and bakery, takes Negril's old storefronts
David Kitiashvili has two of the three spaces Negril left when it moved out last year, on Fifth between Garfield and Carroll. He was born in Georgia and has spent more than a decade in New York front of house, and he says he has been working on getting the location since January. He picked Park Slope because there aren't many Georgian restaurants here and the neighborhood is family-friendly and growing. No opening date yet.

Roadway cafes can stay up all winter now
The city has dropped the April-to-November limit on roadway dining structures, and sidewalk cafes can be enclosed in the cold months. Operators still have to be in the Dining Out program and pay the annual fee, which can now go in quarterly installments, shut the outdoor service by 11, and keep the structures clean or take the fines. Gloria Lopez of Black Oak on Fifth said the extra seating and flexibility will help. Nick Alija of Wild put it as more seats meaning more hours for his staff.

Camp Win's carnival takes the P.S. 124 schoolyard
For the sixth year, Win closed out its summer camp with a carnival, this one in the P.S. 124 Silas B. Dutcher schoolyard on Fourth Avenue on August 18. About 150 of the 500 kids in the program came. Win is the largest provider of shelter and supportive housing for families experiencing homelessness in the city and the country, running 16 shelters and more than 450 supportive housing units for close to 12,400 people a year. CEO Christine Quinn on why the camp exists: "all kids have learning loss in the summer, but our kids start behind."

The Power Broker gets read aloud in Gowanus, and they need 350 people
Brad Vogel is organizing a marathon reading of all 1,100-plus pages of Caro's book on Robert Moses, November 12 to 15 at Judgy Baby in the Montauk Paint Manufacturing Building on Second Avenue. Slots are ten minutes. More than 350 readers are needed, including the early-morning and late-night shifts, which is presumably where you come in.

The Battle of Brooklyn reenactment, free on the Long Meadow
The Prospect Park Alliance, the Old Stone House, and the Brigade of the American Revolution mark 250 years since the first major battle of the Revolution. Speaking at 9:30, the reenactment at 10, and then the soldiers retrace the route from the Long Meadow down Third Street to the Old Stone House, where a commemoration for the Maryland 400 follows. Public viewing is the west side of the meadow; enter at Third Street, Garfield Place, or Grand Army Plaza. Free with an RSVP, and expect loud noise and smoke.

The Battle of Brooklyn 250: The Meaning of Freedom
Green-Wood's own commemoration, on the meadow by the Fifth Avenue gate: costumed interpreters playing soldiers, camp followers, spies and the Washingtons, 18th-century music, invisible ink and tricorn hats for the kids, and a parade up to Battle Hill. Borough Historian Asad Dandia gives the keynote.
