Park Slope this week: Brad Lander heads to Congress, a five-story building for a 13th Street lot, and the holiday calendar
The election is done: Brad Lander, a longtime Park Slope politician, is headed to Congress. Closer to the ground, a vacant lot on 13th Street may become a five-story building. And two new things on the site: a holiday season calendar, and a way to have Park Slope events show up in your own calendar automatically.

Lander, the former City Council member and city comptroller, won the 10th Congressional District, which covers parts of Brooklyn and Manhattan, 83.2 percent to 15.9 percent, according to the Brooklyn Paper. He held his election night party in Park Slope. "We answer to voters, not to donors," he said of his first priority.

A vacant 13th Street lot could become ten homes
Plans filed for 369 13th Street, between Sixth and Seventh Avenues, call for a five-story, 52-foot residential building with 10 homes averaging about 1,370 square feet, a rooftop terrace and a rear yard. The filing doesn't say whether they'll be rentals or condos, or when work would start.

The holiday season calendar is up
It opens with the Fifth Avenue tree lighting on Small Business Saturday, November 28, 4:30pm to 5:30pm at Fifth Avenue and 4th Street. We'll add the other big events, Hanukkah and New Year's Eve among them, as organizers post this year's details.

Brooklyn Roots Veterinary Hospital
A general practice on 3rd Avenue, on the Gowanus edge of the Slope, opened in fall 2016 by Dr. Rebecca Stronger. It handles the full range, from wellness visits to sicker and critical cases, and has its own review page on Park Slope Parents. Skip it if you need 24/7 emergency care or want a vet on the central or eastern blocks.
From our veterinarians guide, where every vet is matched to a New York State veterinary license we checked in the state's records. We rechecked this one last week. Nobody paid to be there.
